Geckno is a web application, which allows you to learn the names of geographical areas. There is the beginners application «The Continents», and four other applications: The 50 states of the USA, the 54 nations of Africa, the inner metro stations of Paris, and the 27 Head of state of the EU.
The Geckno framework is easy to extend. More apps will be added continuously. Maybe your desired geo puzzle will soon be available.
Geckno offers three modes. In mode A you have to assign as many geo points as possible within one minute. This mode is ideal to get a first glimpse of Geckno. Mode B is the same as mode A, except that the test lasts five minutes. In mode C the exam takes as long, as you need to assign all the geo points. If you are not an expert, this test can last very long.
As every good European, I used to call US-Americans fools, because of the fact, that they often mistake Switzerland for Sweden and Slovakia for Slovenia, and because they think Rumania is located in Africa. Then, one day, I realized that I did not have a clue about the 50 American states neither.
Therefore I decided to learn the 50 US states by heart, to be in the position to make fun of the ignorance of the Americans.
To make this learning process easier I programmed a web application, which makes it a pleasure to memorise Ohio, Iowa, and Utah. After I finished my work, I became aware that there was no need to restrict the application only to US states. It is possibile to fill in all kinds of different geographic maps.
That insight led to other hours of labour. But now Geckno is ready and I am all done. I will start learning Ohio, Iowa, and Utah tomorrow...
